Sanitation is a global development priority. It plays a crucial role in creating a strong economy, as well as improving health and protecting people’s safety and dignity, particularly women. Today, 4.5 billion people suffer to a non-existent or ineffective sanitation system, with 7 in 10 having no option but to use open defecation to dispose their waste. The impact of poor sanitation and hygiene practices means disease and illness are easily spread.

In 2013, the United Nations General Assembly together with governments and partners collaborated for the World Toilet Day which is officially celebrated every 19th of November to inspire action in discussing the global sanitation crisis.

The theme for the World Toilet Day 2017 is “Wastewater”, focusing on the proper treatment of waste following “Where does our poo go? A 4-step journey: contained, transported, treated, and disposed or reused. “

In celebration for the World Toilet Day, Initial Philippines takes its initiative in pushing healthy and clean environment through adopt-a school program. The program is part of the global initiative of Rentokil Initial Better Futures that aims to educate the communities about the importance of personal and environmental hygiene.
