RI shares about washroom hygiene and pest infestation via TraxxFM

Rentokil Initial Malaysia has been invited by local radio station TraxxFM to talk about washroom hygiene and how it helps on pest infestation in Malaysia. Everyone deserves access to a clean and hygienic environment, however it is also the public’s responsibility to help maintain it.

Based on the state of washroom hygiene in Malaysia, it is common that we still find wet washrooms, shoe marks on toilet seats, improper disposal of sanitary pads etc. But, in terms of trends, consumer awareness towards hygienic washrooms has increased and become a push factor for establishments to raise the bar of their washroom's hygiene level. With that, Rentokil Initial is moving forward in bringing innovation to retail sectors and commercial property owners, with the aim to improve hygiene standards. For instance, the coloured dispensers to complement the overall ambient and design, touch-free technology to minimise the risk of cross-contamination.

Besides, Rentokil Initial’s core mission is to protect people and enhance lives, by educating the younger generation in pest and hygiene awareness through CSR programmes. Todate the CSR programmes have benefited more than 20k students nationwide. The activities include, educating the local communities and school children about the importance of proper personal hygiene and good washroom habits. It is crucial that everyone knows how to take care of the cleanliness of their schools and homes because of the impact of poor hygiene habits that may result in cross infection.

Recently, The Star newspaper reported that in 2019, there’s a total of 130K dengue fever cases recorded from 1 Jan to 28 Dec last year, the highest in history for Malaysia. Thus, proper sanitation is important to prevent Aedes mosquitoes breeding ground from growing. Be alert in carrying out proper garbage disposal, eliminating stagnant water, and be consistent in our action to keep our surrounding environment clean and tidy. Besides, engaging a proper preventive treatment by the licenced professionals is crucial too.

Last but not least, overall Malaysia’s state of public hygiene (environmental & washroom) is the responsibility of all parties including government agencies, facility owners, service providers, the industry’s association and end users, a push and pull factor across various stakeholders. It may seem easy to demolish old washrooms and rebuild it, but the challenging part is driving the change of users’ behaviour towards improving the sustainability of a hygienic washroom. Cultivate good personal hygiene habits as this would fundamentally inculcate and shape the social culture to become more aware in raising washroom hygiene standards and mitigating pest infestation. When everyone in the community plays their part in this active governance role continuously, it will eventually create a good ripple effect that benefits every user in the long run.
