Local radio station TraxxFM has recently invited Rentokil Initial Malaysia to share the importance of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). As the pandemic has developed to a more severe stage, a lot more research has been done to show that pathogens can easily be transmitted in three different ways, including person to person, surface to person and air to person. Our Health Director General recently shared how the airborne transmission diseases can easily happen, and this is also explained the importance of good air quality in minimising the risk of airborne transmission at the premises.
Based on a research*, indoor air is 2-5x more polluted than outdoor and there are many types of pollutants in the air we breath, dust particles, VOCs like Formaldehyde which can come from our household products: paints and coatings, glue, dishwashing liquid and also pathogens including Coronavirus, that can be easily spread via air to people in a confined indoor environment. Thus, it puts everyone of us at higher health risks as we are spending about 90% of our time indoors.
“Wearing a mask is a basic act to protect yourself and others around you. For regular precautionary step up measures, it is also advisable to have routine disinfection services in your workplace and especially at public premises. Nevertheless, ventilation of the indoor air is important and that’s why we have recently brought in a new air hygiene innovation - VIRUSKILLER™,” said Carol Lam, Managing Director from Rentokil Initial Malaysia.
VIRUSKILLER™ unit reduces up to 99.9999% of airborne viruses and bacteria including Coronavirus which is a log 6 efficacy in a single air pass. What is Log 6 efficacy? For instance, a standard air purifier with HEPA filters that has a 99.99% or a log 4 efficacy, whereby 1 million of pathogens that goes through the unit, the number of pathogens will be reduced to 100, while a log 6 efficacy of the VIRUSKILLER™, it will reduce from 1 million pathogens to 1 pathogen at a single pass of air through the unit.
Besides, VIRUSKILLER™ is a tested and certificated unit with four different models for VIRUSKILLER™ with the coverage ranging from 20m2 to 165m2. Alongside a triple filtration system including pre filter, activated carbon filter and HEPA filter, the innovative VIRUSKILLER™ uses a patented UV light reactor chamber, in a process called “Germicidal Irradiation and Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO)” effectively breaks down the pollutants under UV light, pollutants then decomposed by oxidising hydroxyls (OH) and generated into harmless water and carbon dioxide.
An Industry Code of Practice (ICOP) by DOSH, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health that states that employers are to comply with providing safe indoor air quality to its employees or occupants to protect them from any adverse effects on their health and well-being which will impact their productivity. And also, with the heightened awareness on the risk of airborne transmission diseases, it is timely for us to consider what can we do to improve the indoor air quality and all of us have the crucial responsibility to ensure the indoor air we are breathing is safe, whether you are a business owner, employee or even a homeowner.
Our Managing Director, Carol Lam is on the TraxxFM to share the importance of indoor air quality and also our latest innovation VIRUSKILLER™ which can kill up to 99.9999% airborne viruses and bacteria including Coronavirus*
