There is, however, light at the end of the tunnel. An FT analysis of data from five countries recently revealed that in the countries that have vaccinated the largest shares of their populations, there are signs that the end of this pandemic may be in sight.

Easing post-lockdown anxiety will not be straightforward. The safety of employees and customers should always take priority. Hygiene standards must be tightened and controls must be in place to control any further spread of the virus. Every business has been forced to learn new ways of working, but as more and more successful vaccines are introduced across the globe, the main focus will be on reassuring and restoring trust as the pandemic slowly subsides.
